Can you have a house warming party for a corner? Especially a digital one?
Around here you can. Hey hey! My name is Sophie, it’s just lovely to have you here. Let me introduce myself! I am 22, freshly graduated from college, and trying to get used to this whole full time job thing. Using my public relations degree, I am working my first big girl job at a Creative Agency in Boise, Idaho. I love all things fashion, writing, and sewing, and wanted a creative outlet that combines all three. Hence, Soph’s Corner was born. Think of this first post as your official warm welcome to my sparkly little corner of the internet.
Prepare for a brain dump of all the latest fashion happenings I’m seeing, making, and wearing.
Here’s some of the fashion takes you can expect from me
When getting dressed each morning, the energy I strive for is a maximalist colorful situation. I love fun jewelry (gold always), patterns, and building a closet full of pieces that I can mix and match together. Now there’s nothing wrong with being an outfit repeater, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, but I do love to get out of my fashion comfort zone and wear pieces in new ways. Which sometimes turns into an 8am outfit crisis before work, but I’ll gladly take that risk in return for a refreshed new way to wear things I already own.
Who doesn't want to learn about sewing from a beginner?
My grandma was an incredible seamstress, and as her favorite (and only) granddaughter, I’ve made it my personal responsibility to build off her sewing legacy. About one month ago I received my first sewing machine, and it’s been me and that machine against the world every since. Soph’s Corner will hear all about my early sewing wins, but the mess-ups too, because you know damn well there’s going to be lots of them.
I'll second hand shop 'till I drop
One other thing you should know about me is that I love to buy clothing second hand, it could be at the local thrifts, vintage stores, or online through Poshmark & Depop. It’s not only cost-efficient and sustainable, but it also forces me to get creative with how each find can be worn and styled. As amazing as it is to browse Princess Polly and shop 500 million outfit-ready pieces, I live for the challenge of rummaging through racks of outdated T-shirts to uncover unique gems. Plus, as an up and coming seamstress, thrift flipping has been an exciting way to practice sewing without needing to start from scratch.
